Notice of Declaration

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I wish to announce my intention to stand to be the next MP of Wellingborough, Rushden and the surrounding towns and villages, in the Wellingborough Constituency.

I intend to stand in my own name as an Independent candidate offering a very different approach to the role of being ‘our MP’, alongside a offering a compelling and clear vision for the ways I will work to support the people, communities and businesses of our area to come together and create a thriving, compassionate and sustainable future for us all.

As a long-standing resident of this constituency, an Independent Town Councillor, and Consultant supporting numerous community organisations and initiatives in this area, I am dismayed by the appalling situations that many of our fellow residents experience, and the destruction of essential services that has happened on this Government’s watch, and, through all of this, the poor example of care, support or advocacy that our previous MP has provided to help.

If elected, I would work to show how powerful and important the role of being this area’s MP actual can and should be. Showcasing how a ‘good MP’ can inspire and invigorate a whole area, being present for and working with local people and communities to empower ‘us’ and to help us work together to meet our needs and create new opportunities for investment and success.

‘Our MP’ should be ‘our champion’, ‘our advocate’, mediator, listen to our dreams and aspirations, taking them forward to Parliament and advocating for them on the national stage. This is the approach I would bring, and given I am not driven by the need to ‘please’ a political party or follow a party line, I would have a free hand to work constructively in our communities and in Parliament to press for change or improvements.

Equally, we don’t always need to changes laws to make things better, often we just need existing approaches to work for us, and laws to be properly implemented. With my considerable experience of running support and advice services, working across local government, the voluntary sector, and with business, as our MP I would focus much more of my time working in this constituency, dealing with local challenges and creating ways we can collaborate better together to address the gaps in essential service here.

We have so many gifted and inspiring people and vibrant businesses in this area, and groups taking the lead to provide essential support, this is incredibly heartening. My goal would be to help build on this, working in detail with local and central government, and the community to help us all succeed, together.

The result of this Election will not usher in a new government after February 15th, so we all have a real opportunity to choose the candidate that we believe would be the best MP for this area, the right person, with the right vision. We, the residents of this constituency, also have the opportunity to show that we demand much better from our MP and Government than we have experienced so far from the main political party’s. This is our time to be heard and work together to craft our own solutions to succeed.

As our MP, I will work to help build that spirit of collaboration and create a home grown vision of what good lives for us all actually feels like, and help unleash our ability to make this happen. At the heart my vision is the knowing that we need to create a fairer and more sustainable way of living, helping everyone to afford and access a good home, enough food and provide a prosperous and sustainable future for our children, families and each other.

We need systems that treat people, nature and other species with respect, and we need to co-create the vision to take on the existential threat of the Climate Emergency, reducing our impacts on Earth and supporting us to transition to better more rewarding lives and work along the way.

Doing this we can create our own grassroots, local ‘Green Revolution’ by taking action like improving the energy efficiency of every home/building in our area, and generating our own personal or community renewable power. With over 50,000 homes in this constituency and well over half having energy efficiency ‘score’ below the government’s 2035 targets, and with thousands of our fellow citizens experiencing excessively high energy costs and poor living conditions, there is more than enough desire and high-skilled, high-paid work to create a new low carbon business sector in this area to transform our homes, to improve our lives, and create immense and sustainable work opportunities, if we work to create them.

This campaign also offers the opportunity for me to speak up for and with communities and nature (our home), helping us all to be heard, and to continue to raise awareness about the community’s fight to SAVE THE WALKS TREES 🌳 in Wellingborough, and address other community grievances across our area.

I would appreciate any support, financial or otherwise, that people / you may be able to offer to help me become the town’s first-ever female and
Independent MP. Thank you for this opportunity to further serve in my community.
